Cosy coats

Brrrr, it’s suddenly really cold out there. As mums we spend a LOT of time outside so our cover up of choice is really important to us. It has to be practical yet cool or practicool even. A good ‘mum’ coat can transform the most basic outfit but which style to choose? We’re looking at the kind of coats that you can wear when you’re literally down with the kids but could also work away from the playground.

Shearling style

So many good faux sheepskin styles around this Autumn which is good news for your wallet. They look great dressed down with jeans or up with dresses.

We love a parka. Pockets big enough to carry your ‘essentials’ (you know, phone, snack, toys, wallet, tissues, gloves, hat, blah blah). Plus, a huge hood avoids carrying an umbrella keeping your hands free for pushchairs/little hands/carrying screaming toddler as you exit park…

Clockwise from top left: Gemma wears coat (available in 2 colours) by Autograph at M&S £119, ASOS White £150, H&M £59.99, Urban Outfitters £155, Zara £89.99, Urban Outfitters £119

A welcome return to the puffa. Who wouldn’t want to wear their duvet on their back all day?  And if you choose a long style then you could almost get away with wearing your PJs underneath *JOKE*  We would style this bulky coat with something fitted, for example, slim joggers and a fine knit.

Clockwise from top left: Next £75,  Topshop £75,  Zara £79.99 , Monki £85ASOS White £110
